REGIONAL TRAININGS ON MICROGRIDS

Event Date:
Tuesday, August 4, 2026 to Thursday, August 6, 2026

Are you a professional in the renewable energy sector? EACREEE is organising virtual training for professionals aimed at building capacity and empowering a pool of experts to lead the renewable energy transition across the region.

Objectives

The overall objective of this training is to enhance the capacity of participating energy professionals to design and implement micro-grid energy projects. The training will therefore provide a platform to:

  1. Build the capacity of energy experts on key issues for micro-grid development, from planning, technical design, construction, operation and maintenance.
  2. Enable trainees to understand the policy and regulatory environment needed for successful implementation of micro-grid projects.
  3. Strengthen the capacity of key stakeholders and decision-makers to develop and implement renewable energy projects.

Scope of the Training

The training will provide in-depth, focused capacity building on planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of a micro-grid plant, as well as regulatory and financing aspects. The content is divided into four (4) modules that include practical case studies on real-life micro-grids in the region and elsewhere. The Modules include:

  1. Introduction to micro-grids. Components of a micro-grid system and community energy needs.
  2. Enabling environment: Economics, policy and regulatory landscape.
  3. Business models and financing of project development.
  4. Engineering, procurement and construction of micro-grid projects.
  5. Evaluating social and environmental impacts or considerations for projects.

Target Audience

The training targets renewable energy professionals from the East African Community Partner States. The contents of the training are for both technical and decision-making/ policy-making stakeholders towards enhancement of projects.

Participation and Registration

The training will be conducted virtually from 4- 6 August 2026. Participation in all the training series is encouraged during the course of the training month.
