East African Regional Training Course on Operation and Maintenance of Small-scale Hydro Power Plants (SHPP)

The East African Centre of Excellence for Renewable Energy and Efficiency (EACREEE), in collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), International Centre for Hydropower (ICH) and University of Dar es Salaam (College of Engineering) is organizing East African Regional Training Course on Operation and Maintenance of Small-scale Hydro Power Plants (SHPP), scheduled to take place 26-30 November 2018. The course will be hosted by Centre for Mini-Hydropower (CMHP), College of Engineering, University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

OBJETIVE

The course is aimed to provide competence of the specialized aspect of operation and maintenance of hydropower station including basics of the electro-mechanical equipment, upkeep, operation and maintenance during the operation of the plant.

This course will explore the operations and maintenance (O&M) of SHPP plants and provides participants with an understanding of the key issues, challenges and coping strategies specific to small hydropower installations in the EAC. The course material is draw heavily from IHP’s experience with the design and installation as well as training on SHP globally. 

After completing the course, participants will have a strong understanding of small hydropower O&M issues, enabling them to undertake important roles associated with plant oversight, management and upkeep.

PARTICIPANTS QUALIFICATION AND PREPARATION

The course is open to a maximum of 30 participants from the EAC Partner States. The participants shall be operators and maintenance technicians working in small hydropower plants. They must have background in technical areas, like mechanics, electricians, etc.

In order to fully benefit from the programme, participants are encouraged to bring along information about operation and maintenance issues related to their past and current works that can be shared with colleagues.

REGISTRATION PROCESS

Applicants should complete the standard EACREE application form for training courses and submit by E-Mail to info@eacreee.org. The applications must be endorsed by the employer. Nominations received after that date will not be considered.

FINANCIAL ARRANGEMENTS AND LIABILITIES

There will be no tuition fees charged. However, each participant will make self-arrangements for travel and accommodation during the training course. The organizers will provide course materials, modest lunch and coffee breaks during the course.

The organizers of the course do not accept liability for the payment of any cost or compensation that may arise from damage to or loss of personal property, or from illness, injury, disability or death of a participant while he/she is traveling to and from or attending the course, and it is clearly understood that each participants (or sponsor), undertakes responsibility for such coverage. The participants would be well advised to take out insurance against these risks.
