All fifteen ECOWAS countries are recording COVID-19 cases and, sadly, mortalities. As of July 20, 2020, the region had a total of 107,716 confirmed cases and 1,710 deaths. Besides the citizen health and healthcare sector impacts, COVID-19 has also compounded other developmental challenges, leading ECOWAS member states to seek long-term solutions that will ease the effects of the pandemic on their economies.


Strong private sector involvement is needed to achieve a market of high-quality energy efficient services and products. New business opportunities are coming up with a growing market for local companies. The EELA project provides support for innovative delivery models for energy efficient services and products such as those provided by Energy Service Companies (ESCOs) and other Public-Private Partnerships or private initiatives.


New experts are ready to join the ranks of the Micro-Grid Academy as trainers, to give their contribution to the transfer of knowledge to young African people in the renewable energy sector.


Rome/Kampala, 29 July 2020 – RES4Africa Foundation and the East Africa Centre of Excellence for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (EACREEE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to increase their cooperation and mutual support in the promotion of renewable energy.
